MC is dating a girl their mothers are friends and no father in the picture he has to go out of town for some reason he tells her he will be back in time to take her to prom when he gets back he finds out she has agreed to go to prom with his other male friend and won't change her mind they break up and she showed up at his college a couple of years later and they get back together but keep fighting because she wants to stay friends with the other guy who he wants nothing to do with and it's a continuous theme throughout their relationship which ends badly.

This sounds like a JPB story but there are hundreds of them to wade through. I think he must have written it in the last year or so.

Yeah I thought it might have been a JPB story but I've searched through a lot of them over the last 6 months and couldn't find it.

Also the MC ends up with a terminal illness when they meet up the last time
