It was a story about a young man who was descended from an ancient spacefaring race. Ship was crashed on the moon and it took millennia for his DNA to be available to activate the ship.

Or, if you want it for free, there is a large (and apparently legal) collection of Baen books available from the website at -
h-t-t-p://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/
The particular book that lorrainedalby_1 referenced can be found as 'Empire from the Ashes' (a trilogy) in the 'Hell Hath No Fury' download. The website has not been updated in over six years and is mostly forgotten I suspect.
Hmmm,
This story is reminiscent of the one I am thinking of....
However, unless this is a re-write from the author, it is not it.
The story starts when a "shuttle" comes down and "kidnaps" a kid (16-18 yrs old). He is the long lost descendant of the original commander from the ship.
His girlfriend ends up being the executive officer and he recruits lots of his family and friends to join him in re-creating this space force.
They create an enclave in the SW american desert and turn it into a full fledged military base, but using the advanced technology.
They "rebuild" the original spaceship, which had been "crash landed" on the dark side of the moon many millennia before, better than it was.
They "discover" that the bad guys who beat them before are pillaging the earths resources and shipping them off-world. They stop this and join a larger fight with the "rest" of the galaxy against this race who is stealing the resources(mainly oil if I remember correctly).
I think that the story might have originally been published on Lone-Wolf, but I thought I also remembered seeing it on this site after that one shut down. I also might just be old and senile and wish I could re-find/re-read the story.
Could be a siath novel, he is no longer on this site tried to get on apache's site but could not.
There is a story similar to that on SOL. Can't remember the title ATM but group out spelunking finds a AI controlled warship from an interspecies war. Aliens are kidnapping humans with the UN's consent. Mayhem ensues.
Will look for title.
Dang, It seems like a lot of people like writing about this type of story, but sadly, this is not the one either.
Thank you however, I will put this into the reading queue while I continue to look for the other.
I believe I've read that here on SOL. Damn if I recall the title though. Do you recall any other details?
I'm thinking you're describing StarDancer - The Talosian Chronicles
No longer on SOL, I think by Sir Winston? and available on his own website and amazon under name Ben Winston
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Dancer-Talosian-Chronicles-2/dp/151228081X
Euthara is also part of the series...
Bingo!!!!!!
I knew it as soon as you said it.
Thank you.
Although I am sad that he took the copy from here as well...

I never read it, but from what I know of it he never posted the complete story on SoL at all, just the first half and then a note to see his personal site. As I wait until a story is finished being posted before reading it I never got around to reading it.
It was removed because it was Blackmail/Teaser.
6. Teasers and blackmail are absolutely prohibited. (Teasers are any story parts that require or entice readers to read preceding or following parts on other sites or purchase those parts or sending money for further postings.)
What you are looking for could be Mike Cropo's vampires and wolves, there are 4 books in the series unfortunately mike has passed in 2017, however you can find him here in the authors link
https://www.asstr.org/files/Authors/Apache/My%20Favorites/Web/Sir%20Winston/?s=2&d=1
You can read the series.
Honestly, I don't know how many books are in the series, but there are several books in asstr.
Went and looked at the Stardancer14.html it ends with thanks to several people and states that the author will be "continuing this story with another book: Raptor Squadron".
Seems to point to this "book" ending.

There is more than one author who've pulled stories from here to sell elsewhere. That's a pain when a person was following the story, but I don't see a violation of rules in that.
However, there is one particular author who has used this site to advertise for sale the continuation of a story elsewhere. In conjunction with that, they pulled the story line from here.
Does that violate the above quoted rule?

It's one thing to offer book X or Y for sale on a site like amazon after offering previous books for free on SOL. It's another thing to publish the first few chapters of a story, then require the reader to buy the rest of the story. I know that violates SOL rules. Some authors offer a new story in a series on Amazon or other pay site, then later start posting the story for free in installments. Offering the complete story for sale first satisfies readers who do not like to wait for installments. I have a few authors that I'd rather pay for the complete story up front.

There have been stories removed from the site for doing that - in once case even leading to the ban of the author.

Yes, that is a violation.
I think I'm one of the few who get close to a violation of the teaser rule without actually violating it. I write the story, complete it, prepare and ebook for sale and a html file for lodging on SoL / FS / SciFi. I then make the completed ebook available on the sales sites I use on the same day as I upload the full story for display on SoL / FS / SciFi over a period of time via set dates for display. That way Lazeez knows he has the full story and it's not a teaser while those who don't want to wait can by the full story off the sale site on any time they want to.
typo edit - as usual
Thanks to those that replied. I'll wait to see if Lazeez does anything about it.
I've sent that information via general inquiries. It's bad form in my opinion to specifically call out someone publically when I'm unsure of my stance (thus the question).
