This should be an easy one. While reading "A New Past", I remembered another story, but can't remember author or title.
High school boy has ESP, and can long distance talk. In the process, he helps a company make a drone. A defense contractor tries to steal the plans.

Most yes, but no reference to a drone in book 1 or 2 and only a few uses of the word military in book 2. So I think we can discount the fountain of youth.
