Forum: Lost Stories

Recent story I started reading, but can't remember title, author, or a lot of details.

jonjon2011b ๐Ÿšซ

I started reading a story earlier this week and closed out the browser. When I came back, I couldn't find the story.
The female mc was named Vassey (I think) and had been through some sort of trauma. That's about all I remember. It was either a new story from an author I haven't followed or it was one of those random stories from the archives.
Any help would be appreciated!

On the main page, click on your "name" which is the top clickable field in the leftmost column.
There you are on "Stories You Accessed Today".
Top-centre on that page is the button marked "History".

I think it was Ernest who drew my attention to that one.

@Dinsdale

I think you only get the History option with a paid membership.

Oops, can anyone who does not have that membership confirm that? I always postpone renewing for a week or three so I can see what the differences are, but that one was not on my radar.

@Dinsdale

Vlad you are correct,

Clicking your name and number of stories read will bring up a page showing stories you have accessed today...

I don't have a paid membership but I can see the list of stories I have opened in the last 24 hours

Confirmed. I dind't renew my premier membership a couple of months ago and now get the standard history view of only the 0-16 entries for the current cycle. No history button and a hard limit of 16 stories per day.

Previously, before I got rid of the premier account, the history button revealed a list of thousands going back a decade (well, really only about 7 years and then things were squirrley with lots of unindexed, undated entries)

@PeckingChicken

I vaguely wonder what the story on those "unindexed, undated entries" is, but not enough to really care.
(btw, I used the Vlad handle for around 20 years but tired of it long ago and finally got around to changing it).

Most browsers also have a history link somewhere. It will usually show all the sites connected to for a day or more. The command is almost hidden, like they don't want the users to know about it.

Vlad, how far back does the History button reveal? As Sunseeker writes, just clicking on you name shows today's history.

@Sparky-1953

I have 1720 entries.
The first 1180 are sorted on date - they go back to the start of 2007 - and the rest have no date and seem to be unsorted. Just to add to the fun, most - or all - of the undated/unsorted stories were written after the start of 2007.
Entries can be deleted from that list and I have occasionally gone through deleting entries where I could not remember the story at all and had not given it a score.

@i4pepsi2

Thank you. Since that's a little more than 7 full months I would guess that the History function might be for a set number of stories or views (if you read each chapter of a four chapter story as they are posted that would be 4 separate entries in the History file).

How does it count if you don't use the download function, but read the four chapters back-to-back, putting them on your screen one at a time, but reading them in one sitting? Does that count as zero downloads (because you did not use the download function), one download or four downloads? And then how does it appear in the history file?

I don't have a paid membership and can only get the stories accessed within the last 24 hours.

@jonjon2011b

My browser Firefox has a History option on the menu bar. Other browser have similar options. Select it and Total history option should open a window showing history options. Mine show each day for a week followed by other options. This is not a story list but all the links made in the browser (including story pages). One of those links should the missing story page. I admit it could be a major headache to identify just one link.
