Just been reading SW Mo Hermit's story Trash Man and was reminded of this one. Inner city family has a business hauling and scrapping abandoned cars. One day son (MC) finds something rare/valuable/odd while cleaning out picked up car. Possibly a crossover or fan-fic story.
Sorry: can't help you with that one unless we're looking for the same tale (I don't think so), but still suspect, after previous help here (for which my thanks, people) that there's yet another scrap yard story that I read and now can't find: MC buys a scrap yard; hides something in it, and is much pestered/searched by some kind of fed.
