Trying to remember a story. It was set in midevil times. A teenage boy had to leave the village because he protected his sister from some other boys (killed them maybe). I remember his family name being Ice-something (icebrand?) I also believe his parents (at least his father) had been killed. Eventually he comes to be noticed by the baron and given a high promotion.
Trying hard but can't remember much else other than it was a really good enjoyable story (thus the reason for wanting to reread it =)
