M/C buys or otherwise gets an abandoned surplus Air Force base. He finds forgotten nukes and underground secret facilities. Seem to remember it being in the southwest and involving canyons. I'm not sure if it was complete or unfinished.

Don't know the story, but I'd be interested in reading myself. Hopefully someone knows it.
Are you sure it was an Air Force base and not a missile silo. Castle in the Sand is based on a guy winning the lottery and then buying a decommissioned missile silo which had a secret area he found.
Ernest, do you remember who the author is? I Searched Castle in the Sand and got a No Match result.
I've got it in my personal library as a story from Deana Woods/D.J. Pedersen but I'm not sure if that's the original author.
That's the name, but she pulled it from on-line when someone plagiarized it on her. I remember the story, but I no longer have a copy as that was on the system taken by the gestapo back in July 2015 I'm fighting in the courts to get back.

I've got a .mobi from 2011, a set of .htm files from 2008, a .pdf from 2011, and a zip file of all the .htm from 2005.
Is Deana Johns the original author? I wouldn't want to list a plagiarizer as the author of a story in my library. If she is the original author I will fix that real fast.
From page 16 of the 'Links to good reading (part 1)' on the Sennadar forum,
As seen in this last message from D.J. "Doc" Pedersen AKA Deana Johns Posted to ASSTR in 2000
The self appointed "Empress" of the porn writing world; Katie McN
Has convinced me that my stories have no social redeeming value.
I have therefore removed them. If you don't like it, tell *her*, not me.
As of this moment (Saturday, Augurst 23rd, 1:29 AM) Deana Johns and all
my stories are PERMANENTLY gone from the Internet.
so it looks like it wasn't plagiarism, but criticism.
