I have read 'Conan' by Aubie56 and its not that one - I'm pretty sure it was on storiesonlie a while ago but was too be published by the author. Premise of the story from what I can remember is that they guy gets sent back in time to rome as a slave and then gets moved to a farm along a river and starts building ships after fixing the banks of the river - it was a pretty long story and I would love to read it again

There's a classic story as well - Lest Darkness Fall, by L. Sprague DeCamp - that may be available online now. It was written in 1939, one of the founding alternative history novels.

I'm still reading proleator and it will probably take me another week or so - its similar but not the exact book I'm looking for
Proleator is a very similar to the one I'm looking for but there are some differences i remember there being a camp along the river closer to his property where he builds a slave village and they start an artist colony there making stuff from wood
