It might be Perhaps Love by Shadowwriter.

The Outsider

I've read this story many times and PotomacBob is correct. It's available on both SOL and Finestories.com.

Dont forget the 2nd part to that story; Hatchery Road

Speaking strictly for myself, "Perhaps Love" is excellent and "Hatchery Road" even better.
There was a review of that author's Swarm Cycle story posted around 3 hours ago.

@Sfusa

The second part of the story is that the wife takes the kids and leaves him?

No the main characters in Hatchery Road are new but the ones from Perhaps Love show up at one point.

IT's not really a two parter. More like a shared universe.

Look, either get over your hangups and read an excellent story - which is not you appear to think it is - or leave the discussions of this story alone.

I made a single, one-sentence post asking a question by repeating the story's description. You need to switch to decaf or something.

@PeckingChicken

Yeah, you're right, sorry my bad

Sfusa

@jimh67

The MC for those two stories are different people, but they interconnect a little later in Hatchery Road.

You have been agonising over reading this story for some time now (and I've been away for a couple of days).
