Multi part story. Ship on final mission to save Earth, ends up going back in time and crashing on Earth. Ship rebuilds itself over the next few millennia. One day four teens decide to go spelunking. One goes and gets himself hurt, and the wacky journey begins anew. Also, there's a serial killer about.
If this is the story I remember the ship has historical files that allows them to stop a serial killer, and they also save a girl who's held captive out in the desert by a ranger - I think it's near the grand canyon. - I'm checking my history to see if I can spot a title that rings a bell.
