grandad_rufus ๐Ÿšซ

I just remember a snippet from a story (possibly one of Russell Hoisington's Wynter King series ....

Someone is stealing from the lockers in school. A camera is placed in a locker and a corridor monitor is seen stealing an iplayer or similar.

Any ideas guys ?

Yes it's possible.

I'm pretty sure you're looking in the wrong place, I don't remember anything like that in those stories.

I am thinking it must be a coming of age story, but have read so many over the years ...

ditto - I remember the scene, but not where it is.

Chapter 30:
"She felt through the pockets of his coat until she located the MP3 player, checked the hallway again, and slipped it out. She closed the locker door and pocketed the player.

"Got her," Ron said, sounding pleased. He should. The surveillance camera was his idea, ..."

Since I almost never am able to find stuff precisely in an individual story, I'd sure like to know the process you went through to locate that. Thanks.

I knew the scene so I also knew I had it in my own library (not the SOL Library). I found it through searching my own library. That's how I find a lot of of answers to lost story requests.
Now this one you could have found through the Advanced Search using the words "surveillance camera" in the bottom text box (Story Text search) but you would have to wade through a lot of results. The problem is that if you added "iplayer" as a search word this one would not be found or way at the end of the results. SOL searches through 43000+ stories, I search through 3000 stories so that limits the number of results.
Short answer: use the correct search items (which is the most difficult part of searching).

Does Advanced Search allow Boolean search terms. My experience with Advanced Search is that it is a downward spiral. First it displays all the occurrences of all the words, then all the words minus one, etc. So in your example searching on 'surveillance camera' and 'iplayer' would not only find all the stories that had both words, but also the ones that had either one. In this case, not a desired result.

I think that's how it works. That's why I mentioned that if 'iplayer' was added as a search word you wouldn't have found the story because in the story it's "MP3 player' and not 'iplayer'. Hence the story would end up at the end of the search results.
It's a little like a web search: 'If it's not on the first result page it doesn't exist' ;)

So much for me thinking it was not there. Oops.
