I thought that it was a Tedbiker story. He may have removed it or I am most likely wrong.
A very quiet man is knifed/robbed one night and the punker girlfriend of the thug won't leave the quiet man. She waits until the ambulance comes and cares for him while he recovers. She is homeless and has been mute since she witnessed her mother's murder at a young age. Romance ensues the last paragraph has her speaking her first words.
It was the-quiet-man-the-silent-girl by Sparkyman1961 AKA Lets not tell jane, now long gone.

Saddly, I think it might have been victim to a drive crash since it is not on any of my flash drives.
