I remember reading similar other story where the MC testifies before and names names and amounts of committee members getting money from MC's adversaries.

All help appreciated

'A New Past' Good story, but not the one I wanted.

'Lady in Red' is not it either.

Thanks for trying.

I do not remember what the invents, (in the story I am looking for) but he has the congressional people helping his enemies. His group investigates, and when he is forced to, he testifies before congress, he has the information about the bribes (campaign contributions and speaking fees)

If you know approximately when you read it, you can use something Ernest Bywater showed "us" a month or so ago.

- Click on the "oldegrump[n/n]" field on the main-page, it is near the top on the left - above "Quick Search".
- That shows "Stories You Accessed Today". Above that text there is a button marked "History". Click it.
If you read it before you can find it that way.

Isn't that a premier-only feature? No button for me (as an impecunious Basic member).

Aha - it may be.
When my P-membership runs out I usually wait a while to renew it so I can see which features no longer work, but I only found out about that particular feature fairly recently.

I just had my son check with his basic account and the list of what he looked at toady is there, but it's been so long since he logged on he got the about to be cut alert. So we don't know how long the back history list is as his is blank.

Maybe Lazeez can check in and let us know whether or not a history is saved for non premium members. My guess is that it isn't but that's only a guess.

I've only been premium for a year but my history of stories accessed goes back to 2011.

The question is: can you access it if you are not premium.

Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

@Jim S

History is saved for premier members only. There is a six months grace period before that gets deleted too. History works on the same data that the green dots use. So if you simply click the green dot and turn it grey, the story will show up in the history page.

ok.
My oldest entry is undated but will be for June 2014, I have been non-premier several times since then but never for as long as six months.

I'm sorry, I have caused a lot of confusion. I do not know what the guy invented, but I just read 'One New Horizon' yesterday and it reminded me of the other story. It is not 'A Fresh Start', nor is it'A New Past' but it was a longer story. I may even have the inventor part wrong, but I do remember the Congressional Hearing Part. One more thing, after the hearing, one of the member of the committee tries to flee the country and is stopped by the MC's people.

While Rough Diamond has corruption and senate hearing there is no actual invention in it, which is why I didn't mention it.

Ernest Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

Some aspects of what you mention occur in different parts of Hawk and Chipmunk, but not as quickly and directly as you state.

https://storiesonline.net/s/45443/the-hawk-and-the-chipmunk

After he gets out of prison he recovers the power invention of an old friend who was murdered. There's an unrelated later scene about corruption and some senate hearings. Also his ex-wife and her new husband are caught by friends overseas when they flee the country. They're all different sub-plot lines of the story.

Having done a QuickSearch on "Congressional Hearing" and finding only eight results, I looked a bit closer at some of the stories and found (in Ch. 12):

Specific congressmen were named, as were the amounts of money they were to receive in exchange for turning a blind eye to any complaints

in Pfand X by Lazlo Zalezac, where the MC wants to open a new gourmet pickle factory. This story was highlighted fairly recently, which may have triggered its being read. If not, and it doesn't look that good a match, then there are not too many stories for someone else to trawl through.

Congressional Hearing

I have been banging my head against the desk since i read this because I can't remember the story I read about the hearings. The mc had dirt on almost everyone in the hearing. CRS syndrome sucks!

Most people have memory issues whilst in front of a Congressional Hearing...

As others have already noted, there are only a few stories found with a search for Congressional Hearing. Is it possible you are mixing the plots of two stories into one part remembered story?

Just a thought that might give new avenues to search.

ETA Please stop punishing your desk, it's innocent..!!

oldegrump ๐Ÿšซ

Burrlarr; I asked for help because of CRS. I did not know it was contagious. I may be doing a mashup of two stories, but your comment of dirt on almost every member of the committee is the story I am looking for.

Which sounds to me like Lady in Red 2. The politicos start playing dirty so out comes the dirty laundry.
