I read a story, sometime in the last 6 months (I think).
Guy wakes up on a road - no memory of who he is, arrives in town at a fair and saves a girl from drowning at a bridge.
There were a set of ruling families, and a forest where some nut trees grew. A corrupt church was harvesting the nuts for some reason
