This is seeming like it. I'll have to go through it again from the start but I do remember a lot of people hating him. I also think it was in first person, unlike Banner Year. Thanks for the answer.

There's a few stories what that type of action occurs. If you can remember anything else about the story that would help. However, I do think Stupid Boy is the story you're after because he likes the sound of the hits make on the pads. There are a couple of players carted off to hospital from clean hits.

I'm half-way through the third Stupid Boy book and I don't think this is it. There might have been a chant about eating them alive and shitting out their bones in it.
