Older story. Texas young man going to college in Gettysburg, poss. Named JEB, gets called back to family ranch to help his grandpa. Meets woman and her daughter, former friends, learns to drill wells. Where I first read of Monas--young women from south of the birder who come up to keep house and act as bed warmers. This story may have been written by the guy who did the Howard Randolph/ Howie of the Kiowas stories--many of which are also missing. I emailed him a couple of times a few years ago--he taught at Gettysburg college--but he had cancer, so he may very well have passed. Nice fellow.
