Been long while since I read A Fresh Start so can't remember how the Microsoft part of that story went. The EMP part sounds like Magestic by gwresearch.

By the time I got to the end of A Fresh Start, I had completely forgotten that it was a do-over. I sent the author a note asking him why, in a fictional story, he had chosen to use some real people as characters. I don't remember precisely his answers, but it was something along the lines of he wasn't trying to change history, just fit fictional characters into what had happened. I was embarrassed that my forgetfulness about the do-over part had made me look stupid.

This is in the later quarter of Hawk and Chipmunk - after he sets up a research organisation. It's around chapter 70 after the create the mini-beuwolf cluster.
