Chinese attack America.

Teenage boy, finds a girl and they cross from the enemy side to the USA side. Crossing mountain range in the middle of winter. Long story.

For some reason I feel his name was Josh. She starts out being one of those princess types.

This story follows their struggle to survive and escape capture by the Chinese as World War III reaches northern Washington State. This story is set early in World War III in the A Perfect World/Greenies universe with the kind permission of Al Steiner.

First story I started reading on SOL. War isn't really my thing so I never finished it. Maybe I need to take another look at it.

Yes. Actually there is very little about war itself in the story. It is mainly about personal growth between the two main characters, and how the war is affecting the civilian population. The publicity tour is eerily reminiscent of the war bond tours of WWII, without the raising money aspect, just the trotting out of people involved in the war in an effort to bolster morale.
