Man sets up new business in an old mill

Ernest Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

OK People,

I know I'm one of those who are usually giving the answers, but this time I've a hankerin' to re-read a story and I can't identify it in my History list.

I forget why he ends up moving into the rural town / village, but a man does. He lives in an old mill and does it up. He has a run in with some bad boys, saves a local boy, and ends up starting a cafe type business and local shop operation in part of the mill with the boy's mother.

That's all I can remember of it.

I can't remember the title either, wasn't the MC retired military?

I think he was. When he first moved into the mill he was running every day for fitness, and that's how he met the boy.

The only story I remember about a mill and a cafe business is Ginger blue by SW MO Hermit, but it's no boy or boys mother.

I'll check that next, I had a feeling it was one of SW MO Hermit's stories, and been checking out his Steelville series.

The boy starts running with him. Single mom (can't remember why) and sister live in the same town / village - she works the cafe for him and they end up getting together.

that isn't the story droid I was looking for, and I don't need a Jedi to tell me that.

IIRC, wasn't he making bread? The mill is a water powered grain mill, right?

I hadn't remembered that, but it sounds about right. he was putting the old closed down mill back into operation. As I see what others have said a little more comes to mind as well.
