I remember reading a story that was in Fick Sunk's 'Volentin Stellar Empire' universe.
The story was about a woman that was a Mech pilot that was working mercenary jobs. She ended up taking a job on a planet but was working without her mech suit. Someone tried to kill her, stranding her out in a snow storm hiding in a cave where she was attacked by some snow cat or something like that. May not be part of Volentin, but that is the closest I remember...
