Remember the guy being an older navy vet answered ad for a ranch hand. The kids wind up being born from her father. He takes the boy coyote hunting and they all go skinny dipping in a pond.

I remember the story but not the name/author. 'Blood Money' by Aubie56 is somewhat similar, he tries to help a woman and her daughter.
