I read this really good story a while back about a boy who had a bad relationship with his father. I remember that his mother was divorcing him and that he had to protect his family when his father came to visit them after hearing the news. I also remember that his grandfather had a lot of antique guns that they were going to sell to support the family. He sleeps with his sisters, cousins, and his mother. The all live in one house. There were hints of magic being present in the story, and I remember something about a cat.(Not really sure if I am mixing up 2 stories with that tidbit) I also remember that the story was somewhat long.
