Read this some time ago on Asstr, and really enjoyed the premise. I don't believe this story fits SOL's rules.
Premise: Future world where everything is pretty much controlled and decided for people. A young man works his way up to being a cook, thanks to the tutelage of his mother (whom he doesn't know is his mother). He applies to get a wife, and is given a little girl. She's been called a glitch or error, because the computer that controls everything has her being older than she really is, and it causes her no end to her grief. The man and the girl fall in love, the man's mother kinda of leads a revolution, and everything works out. And there's a secret society underneath the ground. And then there's something about hermaphrodites sprung up at the end. Not quite sure about that, another reason why I want to revisit this story.
