Which is proper: "do-over" or "do over"? Doover is just weird. Is it a guy who dooves for a living? The White Cliffs of Doover just can't compare to those in Dover!

Oyster ๐Ÿšซ

Doover is of course the colloquial (and wrong) comparative of doofus and thus, while it may correctly describe the main character it is not the correct word to use in this context.

Do-over is the noun and thus, in most cases, the correct spelling when referring to the stories in this genre.
Then again with the horrible Adam Sandler movie (Do I have to say horrible here or is that already a given when I mention Adam Sandler?) sharing a name with the genre I believe we need a new name for it.

How about "White Cliffs"? The reference is to the white cliffs of Do-over.

I'll help hold him down if someone will beat him about the head & shoulders with a book of puns.

Just send him to the Comic Strip in Xanth

Not harsh enough.

Clap soundproof headphones on him and force him to listen to Vera Lynn. Over and over again.

Hey, I just suggested a severe beating. What you are suggesting crosses the line into cruel & unusual punishment. :^P

PLEEEEEEEEESE. She won the second world war (assisted by John Wayne)

Then again with the horrible Adam Sandler movie...

First time I've seen a 0.5 rating. I don't care for many of his movies anyway.

Speaking of movies. Anyone have recommendations for really good do-over movies? I don't mean ones where the same day is repeated over and over like 'Groundhog Day'.

Apologies for being too lazy to look it up, but I would expect that you'd find a list on the tvtropes website.

Thanks for the tip. TVTropes actually didn't give me much in the way of titles, but it did lead me to a site on the wayback machine that listed not only movies, but books and TV shows as well.

I don't know any good do-over movies, but for books Replay by Ken Grimwood is fantastic. As is The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August by Claire North. Replay is similar to the usual stories you see here, with a man basically just trying to live his life. Harry August is one of a society of serial immortals and essentially wages war across multiple lifetimes.

Rather than do-over, you might try looking for reincarnation movies (there's a new one about a dog currently appearing in commercials which comes to mind).

Everyone knows the doover is the thing right beside the doohickey, and just below the thingamajig.

doover

I think he was the president before FDR, or maybe J. Edgar Doover, the head of the FBI.

Then it's also a vacuum cleaner, isn't it?

Wheezer ๐Ÿšซ

The TV series, "Heros," has a lot of do-over elements in the plot line. One of the characters can jump back & forth in time and is attempting to change past events to prevent a future catastrophe.
