I loved that book. I don't know how many times I reread it. I liked the POV style, and the way the layers just kept peeling back. I'm not sure, but I think he wrote one other book as well.
He wrote an unrelated novel Threshold. there was two shorts and, in Analog, a three part sequel to Emergence in 2008.

Sorry, but in general, I prefer "smart girl" stories to "serial killer" tales. If there's one thing I hate, it's overused premises about someone spoiling breakfast. 'D (Smart girls are clever enough not to overcook the pancakes!)
I am surprised nobody has mentioned Wes Boyd's stories, though I admit they slipped my mind initially.
His female characters tend to be intelligent and often fairly strong willed. The best example is probably Jennlynn in
"Magic Carpet",
but there are other contenders.
