MC becomes well-known due to cliffside rescue

AS I remember it, the MC was divorced by wife for richer man, so he leaves town. Eventually finds job in Fire and Rescue Team, and becomes famous for being involved in a cliff rescue (I think). Meanwhile, the daughter of his ex-wife finds out this famous person was once married to her mother and wants to befriend him as some kind of father-figure even though she realises he is not her biological father.
I did not get to finish the story before other responsibilities distracted me and I have not been able to find it since.

Closest I can come to that is a guy from the southeast, maybe Georgia, who splits when his GF cheats. He marries a woman, maybe a widow, in Montana or the Dakotas. He's part of fire+rescue and is on scene when a kid goes over a clifftop railing, and he descends to get the kid.

But even if that's your story, I can't remember title or author.

This sounds like the part I can remember. But, as I mentioned, I never got to finish it and also for me, no recall at all for the title or author.

This part sounds a bit like There Is a Reason by A.A. Nemo. I don't recall the protagonist being involved in rescues, so maybe it's not what you want.

Good story though.

There is a Reason is the story i was thinking of, but I can't find the rescue scene in it, or any hint of the MC being part of rescue service. Which means I got it confused with another story which might be the one the OP wanted.

In other words, my contribution to this thread was purely ared herring. Sorry.

I don't think it was set in England. I think Upper's answer above is the story I am thinking of. It's just that the title and author are completely gone out of my head.

Thank you so much. I have been trawling through lists of 'cheating wife' stories trying to find this. I am really grateful to all who helped, especially 'upper' and 'Dinsdale' whom I never thanked properly for the very kind offer to search through his own downloaded files.
I am going to settle down with Captain Morgan and finally finish reading this excellent story.
