Fragments of a memory

NC-Retired 🚫

With my morning coffee I have some websites I visit, "news", weather, science, and photo blogs that feature natural images that calm my soul. You've seen 'em. Waterfalls, beaches, trees, camp fires, fishing and the like.

Today's visuals had a lot of images that featured old trails hewn directly out of the earth, with rock steps and weaving up the side of a hill with trees and such like.

That brought back a figment of a memory of a story that had a trading party traversing similar trails while carrying the trade goods in huge back packs.

A small caravan of humans, maybe 12 to 20 people, not slaves IIRC, but carrying high value goods on their backs.

Were there bandits and conflicts? I cannot remember. But it is a strong memory of these trails.

Anyone else have a similar memory of some tale here on SOL?

Thanks

There is a premier-only story by Porlock called https://storiesonline.net/s/44312/empty-land which could fit, and if not that one then maybe one of the other stories in his https://storiesonline.net/series/55/transdimensional-portals series (Empty Land was the second one).
