There was this story I read a long time ago that I'm trying to find again. This is just a brief summary of what I recall from it.
It was this man who was able to create 'rings' in people and basically mind control them. He was attracted to his sister but then left and joined the military where he was a very good soldier, was very pale skinned and was nicknamed 'the ghost' or something similar. He came back and had a harem with his sister and I believe 2 other woman, one of which was in a mental institute. The ending has him thinking he's been betrayed by his wives and he places loyalty rings into everyone he knows so he's never betrayed again.
