Within the past year I read a story about a Navy veteran attending a university in West Virginia when the world's humanity was almost obliterated he and group from the university looked for a place to repopulate the world.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Both are post-apocalyptic stories with the hero in the West Coast of the USA.
