MC teen mentions Richard Jackson a few times.

Having a brain fart. Read a story recently and the only thing I can remember is that the teen boy mentions Richard Jackson as a real person in the recent past. Jackson was placed in the 50s/60s while this story is more 70s/80s (maybe later).

It is a coming of age story by one of the very good authors on here.

I don't remember reading this story before, but also was not a new story. More of reading another story that the author wrote.

That is probably the story. I re read Stupid Boy recently. The first time I read it was before reading the Richard Jackson Saga.

Last night I just remember that a recent story mentioned Richard Jackson, but that was all I remembered of the story. Could not match the two together.

Thank you.

David plays Richard during in "The Royal Palm" film set in Cuba.. IIRC it's the summer between the his junior and senior years… eg Stupid Boy series…

Banadin, in one of the Richard Jackson stories, has an encounter at a party in his family's posh Los Angeles home, with a young man named Davey Dawson, and gives him tips on working a crowd and networking (iirc). Davey Dawson was the grandfather of the MC in the Stupid Boy series, David A. Dawson, and apparently passed at least some of these tips on to his grandson.

I don't recall in which Richard Jackson book this encounter took place, but it was after his parents had purchased their huge mansion, but definitely prior to the book, What's Under Down Under.

If I remember that scene, Davey is about ten and took (stole) the invite from his parents and was trying to give out business cards at the party. Richard got him a taxi to take him back home. Some facts might be wrong, but close.

I recall (admittedly vaguely) that the interaction was a positive one. I don't think Richard Jackson attempted to banish Dawson or send him packing in disgrace. Sadly, I'm stretching the limits of my memory, and I'm not up for doing searches of each book. Hopefully one of our other merry band of SoL detailophiles will be able to provide some further enlightenment.

Davey gets into the Jackson's Christmas party, but has no success in making future business & politics connections as he planned. No one wants to talk to a kid. Richard sees this and introduces him to a couple of high rollers, stating he needs to collect business cards for a school project, IIRC. That starts the ball rolling as others then exchange cards with Davey to help his 'project'. It's a short human interaction before another action sequence with armed robbers.

I remember it as positive for Davey also, one reason Richard offered him a taxi in go back home at/near the end of party. I believe Davey was from a town or two away, so getting home was going to be a problem for him.

The Richard Jackson Saga might not be top line English literature, but it is one of the few stories since high school that did keep me reading into the early morning hours. It is easy reading that just keeps you reading, long past any bedtime.

I kind of liked the way it slowly morphed from a rags-to-riches recent history story to become an alternate history/sci-fi story. Frankly, I keep hoping for future books, but I also hope someday there will be a sequel to ever and always.

Of course, I also hope for the same from other authors, Refusenik being at the top of the list.
