Read a story some time ago. One scene had horse riding, I think barrel racing, at a fair/rodeo.
The female horse rider is in the ring and I think some young teens use some fire crackers.
The female gets into trouble on her horse and the teen male MC has to rescue her.
I believe it is in recent modern times, post 1950s and maybe one of the later Lucky Jim's or similar type story in that the male MC is lucky/in the right place story.
Right now this is the only scene I remember and is probably only a couple of paragraphs in a long story.
Female rider, fair/rodeo, and trouble/needing rescuing are the only things I am sure of. The rest are guesses that I think happen.
