Cajun bayou hotel with some type of magic

BrandonInOhio ๐Ÿšซ

Hey everyone.

I was re-reading the "a true history of" series and went through the brief new Orleans section.

Its triggering a memory of another story that I just can't place. I believe it was a smaller subplot within a larger story, but involved a mystical hotel in the bayou of Louisiana. Multiple generations ran it, but the woman in charge has been around for a LONG time.

Is this triggering bells for anyone? Thanks!

The Michael Wagner series, sorry to high to look up the name change, by Phil Brown had some voodoo in it.

Don't remember a hotel, but Magic Ink by Uncle Jim had very old voodoo practitioners in New Orleans.

In Joe J.'s story "Honkytonk Hero," there is a character called Marie Arcenaux who runs a bayou hotel. The MC meets her in chapter 17, and she recurs in following chapters.

The relationship is more "mystical" than magical, with Marie recognizing the MC as a gentle soul and a lot of talk about fate.

)Reading this thread reminded me of the first story (book) in John Ringo's "Princess of Wands": Book One The Almadu Sanction where the female MC is stranded in a derelict hotel in a small town deep in Louisiana's bayou country.

This book was marketed in 2005 as "Beginning a New Series",
but Ringo needed seven years to deliver the sequel "Queen of Wands" which definitely ended the plot and killed any expectations of a series. I got the impression Ringo wrote "Queen of Wands" to finally get rid of the obligation to deliver a sequel to "Princess of Wands". If I had to rate both books using the SOL rating scale, "Princess..." would get a 10 and "Queen..." a 4 or 5.

HM.
