Lost Story • Rich Kid Lives Alone

PotomacBob 🚫

I read this story probably 10 or more years ago. What I remember is that a high school boy lived alone in a mansion. I do not recall why there was no mother. His father was very wealthy and spent most of his time living and working abroad - depositing ample money for the kid to live on. At this moment, I do not recall whether there was a love interest. I do believe there was some effort to conceal that he lived alone.
I'm hoping someone remembers the title of the story and the author, or maybe some of the details Ive forgotten.
i assume I liked the story or I would not remember its existence. i suspect there must've been a girl involved and that she probably spent some time with him in the mansion - but i don't actually remember that.
Jog anybody's memory?

Some elements of your story are found in A Friend in Need by Heathen57. I'm not sure it'sthe one you're looking for, but you might like it anyway.

I was thinking of that one also, but like OP could not remember title or author.

I have to read it again, but was that not more about boats/ships/yaults than a mansion? I might be thinking of another story where the MC keeps getting bigger yaults given to him and finding gold/treasure hidden in them.

That sound like the Dark Days — a series by Reluctant_Sir

Quite possible. I can remember what happens in stories for a long time, but the title/author will be gone in a day.

At least one of Old Man With A Pen's stories has a yacht with a gold keel in it.

I think I remember that one. Do like his stories, quirky and fun reads.

Finding Home by Ernest Bywater hits most of those topics. Protagonist lived with mother and extended family in Australia. Father was oversees in army. All of family are killed in an auto accident. Father gets out of army and they move to US to 'restart their lives' so to speak.

That might be CWatson's Arie and Brandon Naked in School (and sequels).

It might be "Friday night lights" by The Senator. It is unfinished and despite promises and many fervent wshes, it appears fated to remain so. But is a good read.

I would second a friend in need from what you said.

A bit more to the story, a pregnant school friend shows up at his door after being kicked out by her parents and the MC takes her in to care for her. His father is not happy at first when he comes to visit.

I'll second Friday night lights because it was the first thing I thought of when I read the description.

There is another story - can't think of the name. Boy lives alone, hates "entitled" people even though he is one himself. Dad stays away because dad is gay, but super rich. Boy gets in some sort of altercation with others in his (public) high school, one girl stands up for him (turns out, unbeknownst to the girl, her father is on retainer to help boy with any legal troubles). I believe, but am not completely sure, boy ends up with both the lawyer's daughter and at least one other girl in his harem. It's possible the boy has developed or acquires some sort of special power.

Damnit, it was a good story, and I'm sad I can't remember the name.
