I remember he is being investigated by some federal agency when he leaves town because he is having issues with his wife and her family.
The Feds interview his wife while he is away and they are looking for him.
On his holiday he meets some people at a poker game and they end up asking him to represent their group in the USA.
I may have read this one, maybe a year ago. There's something about a house with some history, like prohibition smuggling and maybe underground railroad. It's in the middle of a big proposed redevelopment project. MC uses obscure ownership and historic preservation rules to block the project.
