It was published 20 or more years ago if I recall and some of the parts I remember involved one scene where the mother and son made on in a vehicle on the way there.
Other parts involved the father being an asshole who wasn't able to get to the cabin I think due to snow storm. It also in involved another mother and son the cabin and that women was also the aunt.
