Do-over story

olddave1951 ๐Ÿšซ

Looking for story, I've forgotten the name of.
Boy inrolls in class to be with girl. Competes in state level contest. Asks if anyone knows any Polock jokes. His ancestry is Polish. Unless everyone on American Indian, we all from else where. Wins contest. Goes to Hollywood. Big star. Multiple do-overs seeking girl.
Anyone remember?

Do over, Polish author's name, Polish sounding MC. I haven't read it so just a possibility.

Huh...I'll have to check this one out as I love do-overs. Started reading it when it came out but stopped and can't remember why. CRS strikes...again! Lol

30 SOL stories contain 'polack'. None of them look to me like likely candidates. I hope I'm wrong.

That's a do-over that has the Polish part, but nothing about Hollywood or stardom. The athletic competition is martial arts, and it's a couple professional bouts not a school championship.

So, not it. But olddave1951, is it possible you've mixed up this story with, say, Stupid Boy?

The Richard Jackson Saga by Banadin?

MC win's high school state golf championship.
Tries out for school play / drama class to get the girl, fails at both.
No Polish jokes or ancestry that I can recall.
Goes to Hollywood, becomes a big star.
Multiple attempts at getting a girl friend.

Multiple do-overs seeking girl.

That sounds like ... I don't remember. There was a story, with "Seven" either as the author or in the title I think, that just kept going and going. The guy would re-do, show up in the body of some character that was already present, (but with the MC's memories now) and accomplish a little bit, then get shot or hit by a truck, or something and pop up in some other body.

There have been a couple of genie's wish do-over stories that give a "do over" power, but the above story is the one I think of when I hear "multiple do-over".

I don't remember anything about Poland in that particular story, but I bailed out of it fairly early -- I just got bored.

The rest of your description does read like a mash-up of Richard Jackson and Stupid Boy, maybe with some Joe J's Pulaski saga mixed in.

Sounds like an Ed Nelson story 'The Richard Jackson Saga'. It is available on Amazon. He writes as Banadin. Parts of the Saga are available here.

I believe the author is Earl Edward Nelson. He may use Ed so he is not Earl E.
