There is an author who wrote a bunch of stories involving mc's with paranormal abilities. In one series, it started with a boy traveling from Illinois to New Orleans in a car who attracted various people, and could give them some abilities. In another (the one I'm searching for), aliens who'd rescued other aliens fell victim to a disease and ejected in various life-pods to land in locations in the southwest. A young man organizes their rescue, against the clandestine desires of the President.
I think this author may have vanished from SOL - just trying to find his stories, and that one in particular.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
