Forgot the Name/Author - Vet gets elected to congress

Joatster ๐Ÿšซ

I keep mixing this one up with the great Grim Reaper stories.

The protagonist is a vet or a cop that starts a successful business. Ends up running for congress in Maryland. After that he ends up VP then ascends to president. There is lots of talk about the house and property he lives on. There was an intruder to the house that he kills. It was a long story.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yep. With an excellent in universe side story by XofDallas, who doesn't self promote on the forum, so I'll do it for him.

OP, A Fresh Start is a do over starting in middle school and very long, so you have to read through the MC's high school, college & army years before the businessman & politican arc. If you just scanned through the first few pages they may not have jogged your memory. Same author as The Grim Reaper series.

Given that the stories were written by the same author as the Grim Reaper ones, not that difficult to find.
An important aspect of "A Fresh Start" is that it's a do-over story, and that his prior knowledge is very helpful when he amasses his wealth.

Oh, and when you specified "Vet" I was wondering if you meant an animal doctor. Artie wrote a story years ago where the MC was a Vet who was a vet (Open Clinic), unfortunately he deleted all his stories around 12 years ago.

Just re-read Open Clinic a few weeks ago, great story.

Yup, all the way up to chapter 12? The hall of the mountain king?

Indeed. AFAIK, that's where he stopped.

My version has chapter 12 (Part 12) as "Emergence with a Vengeance".

My version - yes, I made it up - is the name of part of Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite". ELP "covered" it in the 1970s.
