I have been trying to remember this, I believe at least one complete novel and an incomplete sequel.
It is about an English girl (want to say late teens, early twenties, but may have started younger) member of the nobility who gets mixed up in supernatural happenings. I believe she is an orphan being taken care of by an uncle (possibly part of some religious order). I seem to recall that she is a tremendously good sword-fighter.
