I seem to remember this question I asked a couple of months ago, but I can no longer find the story.
Teenage boy, father is a homebuilder. Mother is a dance teacher. Mother, dies, and father and son go on a road trip where the son uses things he learned at his mothers dance studio to flirt with women. I believe he finally hooks up with another teenage girl. His father gets reacquainted with an old romance.

At your suggestion, I reread "The Dance" and thoroughly enjoyed it again. But it triggered another story in my mind. The two are similar, but the one that has me stumped is somewhat different. The father (no mother) loses his job and has to travel cross-country to interview for another one. He is rabidly pro-union and wouldn't think of working in a non-union shop. When he leaves, he asks his teenage son to prepare their house so they can sell it - minor carpentry repairs, some plumbing and electrical work. He insists on paying his son union wages so the kid makes a bundle during the summer. I also remember dad's friends stopping by to examine the boy's work and praising it to his father. Sadly, that's all I can remember. Anyone with a memory better than mine?

You got it in one! I forgot all about the esp part but I recognized the story in the first three sentences.
