Time travel to caveman era

Purplecat ๐Ÿšซ

The only story I have read that the MC arrives nude, and with nothing to help him. He 'rocks' a squirrel and eats it raw, makes a spear, travels and catches a fish, then kills a buck. There is more I remember. but if you know the story that should be a good start. Thank you.

As a general rule, any "Time travel to caveman era" story was either written by cmsix or inspired by his stories.
A lot of them were also posted to the stone-age site subsequently taken over by the diaper snipers, but that one appears to have been written after he abandoned that site.

the stone-age site subsequently taken over by the diaper snipers

That is completely incomprehensible without a scorecard. Just saying.

Nah, it's an "if you know, you know" type comment. Translation:

There's a certain site which we're not going to name here which started as a web collection of stories posted on usenet groups. Said site was created in September 2000. This is the "stone-age site".

For various reasons, mostly due to the fact that usenet has been all but abandoned except by people who can't find a home on mainstream websites, the site in question has become known for its hosting of material involving very young children. Still legal in the US since they are just stories, but not allowed on most websites. Thus "diaper snipers".

That's not all that's on the site in question, obviously, just what you see if you look at the recent posts. If you go in to the Collections area there's some great stuff from the early days of the internet. Also some really bad stuff from the early days of the internet. That's just how it goes.

I thought that site started life in the 1990s, this site started around 2000. Whatever, I'm heading out in a few minutes and don't have time to check.

Thank you very much for your fast and accurate response to my inquiry! At least I now know why I don't remember the ending. We did lose a good writer when he moved into the nursing home. Thanks again, Keet

We did lose a good writer when he moved into the nursing home.

We really lost him when he died. This particular story is special since it's one of the very few that don't start with aliens supplying a boatload of guns and other stuff. He literally has to start with nothing, not even clothing. Pretty good writing too compared to some of his other stories.

Chessley Grogan, CMSix, wrote a bunch of tales that are part biographical with strong fantasy elements of a life where he escaped from (my perception) an ugly reality of hard labor and unrequited love.

Hard living with favorite foods that clogged his coronary arteries and he had open heat surgery sometime around 2008 - give or take. I remember seeing a photo of his chest scars.

No longer able to work, he lived in various places with relatives, sister, brother and a child? No clear memory. He was bounced around.

Somewhere around 2010 he was in a single wide about 40 miles from where I lived in San Antonio. He did not have a computer that was reliable and I had a Win laptop that I would have gifted him. We corresponded and bottom line, he did not want my offering.

He made do and found some way to write and publish a few more tales through 2013.

Sometime in those years he had an ingrown toenail and he trimmed it too short and cut the flesh. Did not take care of it and gangrene developed. His foot was removed and it was all downhill from there.

Shortly after he was placed in a care facility and (I suspect) was so cantankerous to the staff that his drug dosage 'calmed him down'.

There were a few posts from those months where he complained about unreliable wifi in the facility and his fuzzy thinking, unable to concentrate on writing.

From reading his published obituary his health declined rapidly and he was gone in just a few months.

In the linked story above, the opening paragraphs are about as biographical as possible, describing his life.

A regret is that I did not travel to visit him when we were so close geographically.
