Started a story a few weeks ago and have totally lost it. A modern Native American traveling to or from a shooting competition goes back to Post(or just Pre)-Civil War era and saves some Navajos or Utes from a band of horse thieves. Makes peace with the whites tracking the thieves after a gunfight with a hot head in the group. He shoots him in both hands to avoid killing him.
