Looking for a Story (DoOver or TimeTravel)

rmorsed14 🚫

Hi,

I am looking for a book/novel that I read online but I can't remember the title or the author.

It is about a DoOver/TimeTravel, a kid goes back to when he was young. He starts a "business" by creating patents for stuff that will be invented in the future.
Also, remember that there is a terrorist attack and he takes over the situation the moment it happens, to get everyone moving and helping, he asks a kid to get a Flag and then goes to the mast to Raise the flag and there are pictures of him and his "girlfriend" that become famous for this situation.
Another thing that I remember is that there seems to be an interest from Russia or the Soviet Union about some of his "inventions" and they have people creating a profile about him.
Also, he practices boxing and gets his girl interested in it and she also does it, again the soviet see this information and try to show the world that they are more advanced by creating a tournament for girls to compete in.

That is all I seem to remember, have tried to remember the MC name but I can't and my google fu has failed me.

Hopefully, someone seems to know which story I am talking about.

As far as I remember, 'A New Past' doesn't have any boxing, let alone female boxing. I have read most of the do-overs here and don't remember reading a story like this.

Chapter 15: "... Alison asked to observe my boxing workout." etc. but I think that scene is the only mention of female and boxing together.

While 'a boxing workout' may imply actual boxing, it could just be that this style of workout is what the character feels will do him the most good,

A lot of athletes take up 'shadow boxing' as it helps improve hand/eye coordination as well as improving your overall reaction time. In fact, it's been demonstrated that most martial artists in a wide variety of different 'schools' typically lose badly when faced with professional boxers, because a roundhouse kick requires a lot of time to set up, prepare and execute, while a boxer will close quickly, not giving your time for the most exotic moved and simply pound you silly.

So the whole 'reaction time' plays well in a variety of fronts, including sports like football, basketball or even balletβ€”where hand/eye coordination and adaptability are essential. Learning to 'duck and weave' is also beneficial across a variety of different fronts.

In fact, Cassius Clay took the boxing world by storm because he never boxed like any boxers of his time, who'd spend time lining up powerhouse punches in what were routinely slugfests. While in his case, he'd pile on a serious of nearly continuous body and stomach blows, leaving his opponents rattled and unsure how to respond, as he was known for his 'lighting quick' repeated blows before finally finishing off his opponents with a powerful knockout punch.

Unfortunately, he was drafted in the U.S. Army, are despite a mainly easy series of 'exhibition rounds' promoting the Army, he refused based on his religious views and spent several years in prison rather than receive a 'conscious objector' status which most white draftees would routinely receive.

And his time in federal prison was a hard slog, and he ended up slowing considerably and thus he spent his non-practice time 'bulking up', later converting and adapted the name "Muhammad Ali", effectively combining both the older power-punches and his own nimble-quick, overwhelming close in attacks.

So yeah, there's definitely a lot to be said for that particular approach.

Charlie Foxtrot's A New Past

It's not that one, I have already read it and it is one of my favorites of the genre along with "A Fresh Start by Rollie Lawson"

I think there's some boxing as part of their personal exercise regime but not organized fighting.

Maybe it was Magestic by gwresearch which is no longer on this site (at least I can't find it). Don't have the patents though.

Or maybe it was Second Chance by Number 7? No boxing but uses a boxing match allegory for domestic abuse suffered by one of the female character, and the patents were parent's generation.

Edit: fix gwresearch name and description of Second Chance.

@Magalis

That would be gwresearch, he pulled all his stories in August 2021 and has some stuff on Amazon under his real name (Geoff Wolak).
As for the actual question, no idea. Not any story I've read.

Nope, boxing is mentioned a few times but nothing like what the OP described.

Perhaps John Wales' Rebirth, MC name Jeff Congdon? I remember getting very annoyed at the way (re)inventions were handled, along the lines of 'Think of something, patent it, start producing it' without there being any of the necessary supporting tech. First was the Helium-Neon Laser, made by going into partnership with a neon sign-maker. I don't remember any boxing, but the MC fixed the attitude of his sister(s?) and her friends, and I think that had some self-defence attributes. There was a doctor (psychologist) who was pursuing him, and I think there was Russian connections there. I don't remember a terrorist attack (I thought I did, but was actually conflating it with the Richard Jackson saga), but in part 2 he rescues a kidnapped girl: at one point, he uses the girl as a weapon against his pursuers by getting her to shit on them down a cliff, giving time to get away.

@madnige

You may be confusing that with Paul's Redemption by novascriptus.

https://storiesonline.net/s/53355/pauls-redemption

That has the laser reinvented on partnership with a neon sign guy. But it's handled plausibly IIRC and he doesn't reinvent much else.

It's a good story, but not what OP is looking for.
