A young man from the northeast part of USA was in association with a criminal group. His friend tried to stab him in the back. He ended up in a middle of nowhere town hiding. If memory serves correctly he wired the sheriff's office. he lived close to the Sheriff. There waws a flea market in town. I thought the name was The Conclave but that does not find the story.
