I think the parts I remember are all from the same story and I am going to present them as if it was in the hopes that someone recognizes it.

MC: Teenage Male
MC is sent to live with Grandmother (Aunt?) due to him starting to show magical abilities. Grandmother is lead witch of her coven and decides to start to teach him. He meets a teen girl that he connects powerfully with and something happens that magnifies his developing powers. Just in time too because the world is shifting toward global disaster (IIRC a manmade plague released by terrorists that the coven somehow fore-sees happening or gets warning beforehand). MC's magnified power when boosted even further by a coven-orgy is enough to transport their entire group to a new dimension. They proceed to set up a new life there and try to keep track of what is happening back on their original Earth, even sometimes pulling others through (although the new arrivals have to be quarantined for a while first because by that time the plague had been released). There is some other problem that develops in this new world but I cannot remember any details. I seem to remember the story as 2 separate parts: the time on regular Earth and the time on New Earth.

Any help identifying this would be appreciated.

Parts of your description remind me of one story, while others remind me of it's sequel.

The description really is of Wizard Tremayne. Perhaps you're thinking of another story?

When Amigaclone recommended the Tremaine series by Rotedrachen, I reviewed the entirety of the first story Apprentice Tremaine. I had read it before so it was familiar to me, but I did not recognize it as belonging to the storyline I described at all.
After moondog_199 commented that it really did sound like the Wizard Tremaine, I decided to go back and check out the second book in the series... and sure enough, the storyline I remembered was from ch2 on to where it was left incomplete.
My apologies for my initial dismissal of the Tremaine suggestion. You both were right and I was wrong. Thank you very much for redirecting me back to that story after my initial dismissal.
