I vaguely recall a title like this from years ago, but it was a series of chapters posted on usenet and reposted on ASSTR or one of the collections. Could even go back as far as Mr Double.
I don't even know if I read the story, certainly don't remember any details. All I remember is that there were at least two multi-chapter stories by the same author, both about an American in Japan. The title Trip to Japan rings a bell, but that's it.
I took a snapshot of his AssTr stories in late 2011 and there was nothing there with "Japan" in the title at that time.
Having done a text search on "Japan" in the html documents, that story is definitely not there.
Yeah I guess on second thoughts that Dorsai was more Siam, Thailand and Indonesia if my crappy memory serves as I think it was around 2008/09 when I last looked at his stuff, could even have been longer than that as I'm not sure.
