A platoon of japanese soldiers are building an airfield in an island. They become isolated due to American advance. Soon they're starving, but they strive to complete their task. They become desperate when a sentry sees an American submarine at the other side of the island. They decide to do a last banzai charge. When they arrive to the beach, the submarine is gone. The commander is heartbroken because he sees his chance to die with honor gone. But one of the soldiers says "they ran", "we won" or something like that and soon the whole platoon chants victory.
The airfield is finished.
Does it ring any bells? TIA
