I dont remember the whole story, but one scene in particular has remained in my mind. An extended family travelling across the plain and get caught by a wild fire. The hero stays with the slowest wagon and realises that they will not make it as overloaded as it is, so starts lightening the load by dumping a big stove and then other items. The lightened wagon makes it to the river, but they have lost all the other members who were able to travel faster. The much reduced party continues on, and eventually meets back with the family.
Getting old sucks because you cant remember these stories, but it also means you can reread and approach a book as a never read before experience.
