Lost a story

Late Teen or man (I'm not sure of age when story started) kicked back to mid 1800s in area of Phoenix, or possibly Tucson Arizona. He becomes bounty hunter since he knew much of the area from extensive hunting in the area when he was younger. He knew of caves in the area where outlaws might hide out. I believe main weapon was a shotgun, at least initially. Catches many outlaws and woos young lady.

I thought it was from aubie56, but reviewed all of his I can find as well as both topic and custom searches, but no luck.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Are you sure it's a Time Travel story? I remember a story along those lines - one of Aubie's early stories - but I don't think that particular one had time travel.

With the exception of "since he knew much of the area from extensive hunting in the area when he was younger. He knew of caves in the area where outlaws might hide out"... this sounds exactly like Aubie56's Autoloading Shotgun.

It rings a bell for me. Unfortunately it is a tink, tink. I think after his bounty hunting days he became a guard for a freight line taking supplies and the payroll to mines. I hope somebody will be able to identify it so I can read it again!

Wide Open Plains by aubie56
Joe Waters was a Western movie stunt man who somehow traveled through time to the West of 1876. He started out as a bounty hunter because there were no other jobs available, and that turned out to be his lucky day. He found two wives and a fortune in gold. He had plenty of chance to use his Starr DA in.44 caliber as he lived through a tumultuous year.

Not Wide Open Plains. That story is mainly Nebraska plains, not mountains of Arizona. Also no caves.

The story I remember was he was searching for a higher priced thief then went to search caves & found one occupied. Occupant shot at him & he used a shotgun to blast him. He wasn't the robber he was looking for, but was lower valued one + able to sell 2 horses and guns. Later runs into man in the woods without a horse. This character said he had some friends in a certain direction, but then tried to kill hero. Hero kills him then searched for "friends" and finds a nest of rustlers. He has an unfortunate encounter, but comes out on top.

Continue seeking high value target. I may be confusing things but I think he is hired by rancher who is crippled from a buckboard accident where the rancher was pinned under wagon and group of bad guys rape his wife and daughter then laugh & ride off. Hero goes after & eliminates bad guys the marries the "ruined" daughter.

Did a search with the bounty in the Description box this was the closest, even though you said you had been through aubie56's work. Good luck in your hunting.

I think the story with the cave and bounty hunter is "Dome's early light", another one of Aubie56's time travel Westerns.

Yep, that's the one. For some reason, I had it linked to my replicator files, not time travel.
