Nowhere Else To Go

mijpark49er ๐Ÿšซ

One of my pet hates is starting to read a story only to get to the end and find the dreaded "Incomplete and inactive" (having forgotten to check that particular Search parameter or just clicked on someone's recommendation).
The above story is shown as being complete after Chapter 13 but does anyone, other than the author, qhml1, think the same?

I've just seen the author's blog, which tells us that this is a 3-part story so why not stick "- Part 1" on the title?

I read chapter 1 when it came out, and decided that it really really needed editing. Since none of the chapters has been reposted (so far) . . . well, I have other things which need doing.

I think it shows that writing an exciting, engaging story has more effect on story scores than avoiding typos.

Maybe just maybe the next story will be called something else and he will create a Universe.

He probably intends to use different titles.
e.g. Asimov's "Foundation Trilogy": Foundation, Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation.
e.g. Anne McCaffrey's "Planet Pirates": The Death of Sleep, Sassinak, Generation Warriors.

Kenn Ghannon reopened his 'Runesward' story with a Tome 2 after previously marking it complete, so qhml1 could do something similar.

Speaking of Kenn Ghannon, is there any technical reason why his CAPable stories couldn't be made into a series within the Swarm Cycle Universe?

Can anyone other than the universe owner create a series within the universe?

There are a couple of other sets in the Swarm Cycle that could be a series within the universe.

I have no idea, but if it's a public universe that would seem logical.

No. The only way to create a series is to use the universe management tools, and that will only allow the owner of a universe to manage it.

What happens if a universe owner disappears and is no longer contactable? Would you allow an interested party to take over the reins?

If the universe is public, then I'll manage it. But just like I don't give control over an author's stories (unless asked to by the author like when Lazlo Zalezac did when he realized he was dying), I don't give control over universes/series.

I can add an author's series to a public universe manually, but it's not doable through the tools provided to authors.

No, but if you find a way to avoid the copyright concerns there's little reason why you can't create another universe or series of your own with a different name.

I find qmlh1's stories fun. I first found this author years ago on another website that starts with L. If you look at "Split Tails Ranch" and "Walters Brothers", these stories are related. Same can be said of other's of this author.

I try to praise in public, criticize in private, try to offer constructive criticism in a way I might want someone to treat me. Have you offered the author your thoughts in private before going public?

Read it, enjoyed it, looking forward to the next two installments.

I do agree it doesn't have a traditional ending (either resolution or cliffhanger). It just sort of comes to a stop. An author's note at the end telling readers to watch for the second book would go a long way toward soothing nerves. The blog post says it's a trilogy.

I'm also a fan of the author and have read many of his stories. He's worth following.
